7 Brew Coffee is coming to Route 30
The old Tony Wang's site on Lincoln Highway East is finally becoming something. Brothers Jon and Michael Gish are putting up Mill Creek Commons, a $10 million shopping center across from Tanger Outlets, and Lancaster County's first 7 Brew Coffee is moving in. The drive-thru-only chain will get its own 550-square-foot building with dual drive-thru lanes. Tropical Smoothie Cafe is also taking a spot. Construction wraps in September.
Behind the strip mall, Michael Gish is building a new 23,000-square-foot Gish's Furniture — 50% bigger than his current store at 2191 Lincoln Highway East — set to open mid-December. For a stretch of road best known for outlet parking, things are getting interesting.
Lancaster may bring back two-way traffic on Orange and King
Lancaster's Department of Public Works is hosting two open houses at Lancaster Public Library (151 N. Queen St.) this week — Wednesday, April 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — to share updates on its Vision Zero study. On display: concept plans for converting Orange and King streets back to two-way traffic. Queen and Duke were considered and ruled out, with the city saying a two-way conversion there would create serious congestion.
Drivers tend to like the current one-way setup. Walkers and bikers say it encourages speeding. A final report is due this summer. More at lanc.news/onewaystreets.
Former Maryland QB just bought 222 Dutch Lanes
Jordan Steffy, a 40-year-old Lancaster native and former University of Maryland starting quarterback, bought 222 Dutch Lanes with his wife Kiandra for $2.35 million. Steffy grew up bowling there — he rolled a 256 at age 9, if you're curious — and is buying the 40-lane West Earl Township alley from Eric Montgomery, whose family has owned it since 1986. The place pulls a huge crowd from Lancaster County's Plain community; some Saturdays, all 40 lanes are full past midnight.
Steffy plans to renovate the exterior, ramp up social media, and eventually add batting cages or pickleball courts. Montgomery is staying on as general manager for at least three years. Bowling isn't dead in Lancaster.
