We teamed up with Smokehouse BBQ & Brews in Bird-in-Hand to send one Lancaster Ledger reader (plus a guest) to dinner.

The prize: a $55 voucher good for two meals and two non-alcoholic drinks at Smokehouse. Valid for a full year. Mailed straight to the winner.

Tom Beachler retires from Kreider Farms today after 46 years

Tom Beachler caps a 46-year run at Kreider Farms today as president and COO, handing the keys to his son. Beachler started in 1980 as a 22-year-old who literally walked two miles through a snowstorm to get to the interview at the Manheim dairy farm. By the time he leaves, Kreider is the 14th-largest egg producer in the country, with operations spanning dairy, eggs, and processing.

The succession is a clean one: his son takes over June 30, no outside hire, no surprise board shakeup. Just the next generation stepping up the way you'd expect from a Lancaster County dairy family.
