Mount Joy's Matt Wheeler won $13,500 on Jeopardy! before finishing 3rd
Mount Joy resident Matt Wheeler — an associate registrar at Lancaster Bible College and a working singer-songwriter — won $13,500 on his Jeopardy! debut Thursday night, then came back Friday as defending champion and ended his run in third place with another $2,000. Wheeler hosted a watch party at Landis Hall in the Junction Center in East Hempfield Township, where friends and family packed in to cheer him on. His reaction after Friday's loss: "An experience I'll treasure."

Community Spotlight: Jerry Kornfield of Leola
Jerry Kornfield of Leola is part of a small Lancaster County contingent in competitive airgun benchrest — a precision target sport where competitors take aim at small targets from a rested position at distances out to 150 yards. Public competition records confirm he was on the roster for the Pro-Benchrest class at the Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge in Colorado last year and placed 36th in 50-yard Benchrest Unlimited at the Extreme Benchrest national event in 2025.
Kornfield wrote in to The Ledger after a recent welcome email to share that he won an airgun benchrest competition in Florida this spring, taking home a $15,000 prize. Congrats, Jerry!
