Edd's & Flo's is leaving North Queen for Philly, and a 9/11 play returns to Lancaster for free

Edd's & Flo's is closing on North Queen and moving to Philadelphia
Edd's & Flo's Artisan Bakery Café at 47 N. Queen St. will close Sept. 20 and reopen in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood. Owners Meghan Young and Sebastian Schuck opened the shop in 2021 as Wish You Well Bakery, named for the salutations Young wrote on orders when she first started selling baked goods. They renamed it in 2024 because the name made some people think it was a wellness or gluten-free shop. The new name comes from Young's childhood cats, who were named for Flo & Eddie of The Turtles. Young lived in Philadelphia before Lancaster. "Lancaster may not be our forever home, but it has been an incredibly important part of our journey," she wrote on the bakery's Facebook page.
Two more weekends. The shop is open 8 AM to noon, Friday through Sunday.

A 9/11 play written the morning after comes back to Lancaster, free
Artie Van Why was a word processor at a law firm near the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, and saw the devastation first-hand. The next morning he gave up answering emails and voicemails and wrote a letter about what he had seen instead. People encouraged him to keep writing, and it became "That Day in September," a one-man play that ran in Los Angeles and off-Broadway in 2003. For the 25th anniversary, Joanna Underhill of Creative Works of Lancaster directs a free staged reading at Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse, 112 N. Water St., at 7 PM Sunday, Sept. 13, with Brian Martin, who first played Van Why at the Fulton in 2006, back in the role. Registration is required at lanc.news/DayInSept2026.
Martin was working the cafe at the Borders bookstore that morning when someone came door to door with the news. Twenty-five years is a long time, and also not.
