Marietta's new mountain bike trails open Saturday, and beginners are the point

The Borough of Marietta and the Susquehanna Area Mountain Bike Association open the Marietta Woods Trail Project this Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 AM to 2 PM at 501 E. Front St. in Marietta. The project is two progressive trail loops built for beginners, families and experienced riders alike, plus a bicycle playground at Front Street Park: a skills area with rollers, bridges, berms and pump-track features where you can practice before you head into the woods. Riding is free. Opening day brings guided rides on the new trails, a kids' adventure ride, local vendors and food trucks.

Jake Sitler, a former pro cyclist who lives in Marietta and owns Endo Collective there with his wife, Jamie, gave LNP an early tour. Bring the kids, and bring the bike you swore you'd start using again.

The man behind 35 trivia nights a week in Lancaster County

If you've played bar trivia anywhere in Lancaster County in the last 15 years, there's a good chance Sid Barnette's company wrote the questions. Barnette has hosted karaoke and trivia since 1998 and founded Thirsty for Knowledge in 2011. It now runs more than 35 events a week across the county. In Manheim Township alone, Bierhall Brewing, P.J. Whelihan's, Station House Tavern, Stoner Grille, Stubby's, UnCommon Pizza and Wayside Public House each host a weekly night, and six of the seven run at 7 PM on Wednesdays. Stoner Grille host Matt Stetler met Barnette at karaoke at the old Travelodge on Columbia Avenue.

Barnette says the job is finding the questions between "What color is Where's Waldo's shirt?" and "What color are Waldo's socks?" One, he says, is easy and the other is impossibly difficult. Wednesday regulars, you now know who to blame for the geography round.
