Pickleball courts and a boardwalk for Old Trolley Line Park, plus a trucking company picks East Hempfield for its next build.
The Digest
A. Duie Pyle is building on 25 acres in East Hempfield
East Hempfield supervisors cleared the way on Sept. 16 for A. Duie Pyle to build a 47,743-square-foot transportation center at 5 Holland St., waiving a preliminary plan requirement for the West Chester logistics company. The site is about 25 acres in the township's enterprise zone, and the permitted use falls under heavy truck repair and sales. The company moves 12,000 to 13,000 shipments a day out of 36 service centers across 15 states, and the new integration center should employ around 25 technicians. Chairman and CEO Pete Latta told supervisors the county's available labor pool is what decided it.
He also told them where the company started. "My grandfather bought a used truck from a next-door neighbor on April 1st, 1924," Latta said. "And we entered the transportation business."

Old Trolley Line Park is getting pickleball courts and a boardwalk
The state is putting $300,000 into Old Trolley Line Park in Mount Joy Township, which is now in its third phase of development. The money buys pickleball courts, pedestrian walkways, more parking, a pavilion and a boardwalk, plus ADA access, landscaping, fencing and stormwater work. It comes from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, and the park is one of more than 165 across the state getting one of these grants this round.
The park sits near the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail and the Conewago Recreational Trail, which is most of the point. "This investment will expand healthy recreational opportunities and connect existing trails and green spaces for members of the Elizabethtown community and beyond to enjoy," said State Sen. James Andrew Malone. DCNR has now put more than $1 million into the park since 2008.
