A 50-year hardware supplier on Old Philadelphia Pike is closing
Fastening Products of Lancaster will shut down later this year after more than 50 years in business. The family-owned supplier at 1980 Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township sold its customer list, open orders and inventory to Lubker Distribution of West Chester last month. It sold nuts, bolts and screws alongside tools and industrial supplies. Of the 11 people working there before the sale, three or four are being kept on by Lubker.
The Welk family, who owned it for decades, is holding onto the Old Philadelphia Pike building. Owner Mary Welk is retiring. Her son Adam, who ran the place day to day, is going to Lubker.

The only voice the Stormers ever had signed off
Dave Collins called the Stormers' season finale in Hagerstown on Sunday and then took off the headset for good. He had been the team's radio voice since the first pitch in 2005, twenty-one seasons and roughly 2,700 games, out of 46 years and nearly 5,000 games in the business. He is 67, and the job that got him here ran from Rochester to Madison to Prince William to Bowie to Frederick before Lancaster.
"It's time," Collins said. "Emotionally, I would love to go on doing this. It's just physically, I know I can't." Manager Ross Peeples, who has been there all 21 seasons himself, put it another way: "I'm pretty sure if you come to a game and ask anyone if they know Dave Collins, I pretty much guarantee you they're going to know who he is."
