Pennsylvania is getting a Mellow Mushroom

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts announced Thursday that it is bringing Mellow Mushroom to the 8,000-square-foot former Rite Aid at 337 W. Chocolate Ave. in Hershey, the chain's first location in Pennsylvania. The pizza company has more than 160 restaurants across 16 states, most of them locally owned and most of them in the South, and until now the closest ones to us were in Ohio and Virginia. Expect the hand-tossed, stone-baked pizzas plus smash burgers, wraps, a deep bench of gluten-free and vegan options, and local beer behind the bar. The Hershey build will work in nods to the town's chocolate history underneath what the company calls its retro-psychedelic look.

The announcement landed on the first day of National Pizza Month, which is either good planning or a very long wait, because the doors are not opening until fall 2027.

Twenty neighbors just got $2,500 for what they were already doing

Twenty Lancaster County residents are the first winners of the Lancaster County Weaver Award, which comes with $2,500 and no instructions. The Lancaster County Community Foundation and the Lancaster County Local Journalism Fund spent four years building the selection process, and 160 nominations came in the first year. The winners are not running big institutions. Jane Weigel built a fairy garden with her family and the neighborhood kids, and leaves weekly notes from the fairies so there is a reason to come back. Libby Modern hands a west-end storefront window to a different artist every single day for a month. Samantha Sweigert runs a letter-writing club. Rachel Factor matches people who have broken things with neighbors who can fix them.

One of them you have already read about here. Lee Shannon won for Drink & Draw, the open art night at West Art we list most weeks.
