An all-day breakfast spot opens and Thai food heads for Water Street
The Digest
All-day breakfast lands on North Plum Street
Shmacken, a small breakfast and lunch spot, is open at 630 N. Plum St. in Lancaster city, serving breakfast sandwiches, omelets and French toast alongside cheesesteaks, burgers and chicken tenders all day. There's some counter seating, but it's built for takeout. Owner Qureem Glenn spent 30 years working jobs across the restaurant industry before deciding to work for himself, and he found the spot when he saw a "for lease" sign near the nail salon his wife owns. It's open 7 AM to 7 PM Tuesday through Friday and 8 AM to 6 PM Saturday.
The corner has been home to a long line of restaurants, most recently The Big 5 African Cuisine, which closed in May. After 30 years, the name on the door is finally his.

Thai and Hawaiian is coming to Zoetropolis's old restaurant
Cozy Thai & Hawaiian is set to open in mid-November at 112 N. Water St., in the space Zoetropolis used for its restaurant until it closed in August. (The movie theater next door is still running.) The menu will include dim sum, curries and other Thai and Hawaiian dishes, with 60 seats inside and room for 30 on the patio. It's owned by mother and son Michelle and Michael McKinnell, who ran a stand together at Southern Market. Michelle still runs that stand as Lemongrass, and Michael will manage the new restaurant.
They're seeking a liquor license and hope to add a tiki bar eventually. Dinner and a movie, and you won't even need to cross the street.
