Central Market's getting new historic doors, set by set
Paradise-based Vintage Millwork & Restoration has been replacing the historic mahogany doors at Lancaster Central Market for Central Market Trust. The project covers 13 doorways and 26 doors total, split into four annual phases, with eight sets completed so far. Executive director Melissa Ressler called them "quality replicas of our original market doors, with great attention to detail." About 35,000 visitors walk through Central Market every month, so plenty of you have already pushed through the new ones and not noticed. Which is the whole point of a good restoration.

A West Lampeter family turned their front yard into a fairy garden, and now the neighborhood comes by every Sunday
Jane and John Weigel of West Lampeter Township have spent the last six years turning their front yard into an interactive fairy garden that draws about 20 neighborhood kids every Sunday. Visitors check a fairy mailbox and collect treasures left by a cast of five fairies (Fredrickthe writer, Fiona for arts and crafts, Felicia the baker, Felicity for games, and Flora the gardener), each with their own personality. The whole thing started in spring 2020 when a decades-old maple was removed from the property. The Weigels' son Luke built a fairy house out of the stump, and it grew from there into vignettes, solar lights, and seasonal decorations across the yard. Jane Weigel said the mission is simple: "get kids off the screen and give them a childhood" while teaching kindness and curiosity along the way.
