A three-week-old donut shop near F&M is already dark
Federal Donuts & Chicken opened at 621 Harrisburg Ave. on July 10 and locked its doors before the month was out. Franchise operator Scott Eden told staff in a July 27 group chat that the store would not reopen, writing that the landlord wanted $30,000 to fix the air conditioning and "it's not going to work." Campus Apartments, the Philadelphia firm that owns the building, says the closure is "not due to HVAC or plumbing issues," which is hard to square with the handwritten "Closed for Plumbing & AC Repairs" sign still taped to the window on Thursday.
Ben Hodge, 18, who took the job because it was a six-minute walk from his house, said the kitchen hit 90 degrees on some shifts. "He didn't even wait for F&M to start back up," he said. The chain closed three Philadelphia locations this summer.

We put every entry in order and drew one at random. Congratulations to Sandra K., who entered on Facebook. Sandra, check your messages. For everybody else, thank you for entering. We had a lot of fun watching this one fill up. More to come!
