Marietta is a borough along the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County. The area was known as Anderson's Ferry until two towns were laid out, New Haven in 1803 and Waterford in 1804, and they were chartered together as Marietta in 1812. Canal traffic, lumber and iron furnaces built the 19th-century town, and in 1978 part of it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as a well preserved mid-19th-century town. Today the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail runs past it along the riverbank.
